I met Jack (then 4 weeks old) and his mother Johanna on a crisp January morning in our building. We chatted for a few moments and realized that my daughter and Jack were born on the same date and year! Coincidence or luck, we were supposed to meet and become friends! I rambled on about how my husband and I were barely getting any sleep and sharing night duties was keeping us alive, Johanna smiled politely. Further into the conversation she mentioned she was a single mom and had recently adopted Jack from Georgia. How did she do it?? Her polite response “I don’t know any other way” gave me a glimpse into how she approached her new and unique journey into motherhood with so much grace and humility.
As our friendship grew, I learnt about the arduous journey to Jack and Johanna meeting. The road to motherhood is not always as we imagined. It can be filled with many struggles, and so many women experience different challenges along the way to become mothers. Sharing experiences has just made us both realize how truly blessed we are that we have happy healthy babies.
Johana is a strong, fearless and loving mum. I am grateful I met her and call her my friend. When I see them together my heart melts and I know that it was written in the stars that Jack was meant for Johanna.

Awesome pics, lovely story. You have a gift to draw the beauty of people’s souls out into clout for us to see. Thanks Gopika, Taz. All the best with parenthood. All I can say it’s not easy, worse is yet to come, but -and a very big but- joy, love, wonder, rediscovery, awe – overshadows the “butts”. Love you three. Kari

Thank you for such kind words. Parenthood is teaching me about patience, patience and more patience. But you are right the love makes up for all the “but’s”. Hope you are keeping well. Lots of love from us xxx
