“I am going to try to pay attention to the spring. I am going to look around at all the flowers, and look up at the hectic trees. I am going to close my eyes and listen” – Anne Lamott. It wasn’t until this year that I truly appreciated spring in New York City. Living through the past 12 months in NYC, to me felt like one long, long winter. This spring, I appreciated each bloom on a cherry blossom tree, every tulip bud on Park Avenue and the bright yellow in the dandelions. Our perspective and appreciation of even the smallest of things is changed by hardship and time.
A mother goes through so much, each with her own journey to become a mother. Some wait 9 months while others wait years. Maybe that’s why a mother can appreciate the loving smiles of her baby while holding a cold cup of tea/coffee on 2hrs of sleep.
Yes, I think I am ready to enjoy spring and really listen with my eyes closed.
